filmmaker
Michal Hogenauer (1984, Czech Republic) studied graphic design, photography and graduated in film directing at FAMU in Prague. His graduation film Tambylles (2012) was screened in the Cinéfondation section at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2015, he co-founded the film education platform Cinergy Prague, which organises masterclasses with outstanding filmmakers. The story of a young au pair manipulated by a cult, his debut feature film A Certain Kind of Silence premiered at IFF Karlovy Vary 2019 and won the Bronze Pyramid award for best first film at IFF Cairo. His second feature film Calm in the Canopy had its world premiere at IFF Pingyao 2023.

In this minimalist detective thriller, we follow M, a wealthy middle-aged man who encounters a suspicious young man at the airport during a business trip. This seemingly insignificant exchange of glances and words triggers a spiral of unexpected events. As M tries to identify his pursuer and prepare for a possible attack amidst the bustling city, his defensive maneuvers lead him into darker situations, disrupting his relationships with his girlfriend and colleagues. Can M escape the trap that awaits him, whether set by society or by his own mind?
